Whenever I think about disability advocacy, I think about Justin Dart. He was a pioneer for justice and equality for people living with disabilities. Dart helped with the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990.
The ADA has improved the quality of life over the years for individuals with disabilities regarding employment, healthcare and transportation. Yet, even more work needs to be done. There are two opportunities for you to voice your opinions.
Complex Rehab Technology (CRT) Congressional Call-in Day
Today marks CRT Congressional Call-in Day. Talk with your Members of Congress and let them know the importance of specialized equipment for people with disabilities. See the attached flyer for more details.
Advocacy Day for Access and Independence
The disability community of South Carolina is gearing up to speak with legislators Thursday, May 8 at Advocacy Day for Access and Independence in Columbia, SC.
The rally will feature speakers who understand the hardships of finding accessible transportation when going to work or school. Others will describe the challenges of finding employers who are willing to hire individuals based on their skills and talents.
Both of these events allow you to educate our lawmakers and advocate for an inclusive community for everyone.
For more info about Complex Rehab Technology, watch the video below presented by Bert Burns.
I just checked our state, SC. There are no co-sponsors as of 12:50 pm on Tues. 4/29.
